RIP Dave Brubeck. This was one of the first pieces of jazz music I ever listened to and it still has me tapping my feet. To go with it, I want something refreshing and not too complicated, but with bags of easy-going appeal. That's why I've chosen this value-for-money Fiano from Campania.

Just been introduced to to the wonderful voice of Jacqui Naylor by a good friend. Love its mellowness, so I'm happy to settle in for the night with a bottle of supple Ogier Châteauneuf and Jacqui singing For What It's Worth. Hope you like it, too. Sultry sounds.

These are scary times at the moment: the EU is in crisis and the Middle East looks like a tinder box primed with explosive. To take my mind off the news, I need some humour from Loudon Wainwright III singing Hard Day on the Planet. And in my glass? The 2010 Hatzidakis Santorini Assyrtiko, one of cash-strapped Greece's best whites, will do just fine.

Really felt like listening to Chopin's C Sharp Minor Nocturne this evening. But what to pair it with? The great pianist is buried in Paris in Père Lachaise, so it has to be something French. The vineyards of Chablis are close to the capital and the 2010 vintage is one of the best I have ever tasted. So let's open a bottle of the 2010 Domaine Long-Depaquit from Soho Wine, a beautifully transparent white Burgundy that complements this beautiful music.
