Stan Getz, João Gilberto and Coconova Brut

I don't hold out much hope for England's chances at this year's World Cup, but at least we can enjoy the atmosphere from the this side of the Atlantic. To get you in the mood, how about a bit of classic Brazilian music with a bottle of fizz from Miolo, one of the country's best producers? The Coconova Brut is available from Marks & Spencer at £8.99.

Bruce Springsteen and 2011 Botanica Chenin Blanc

I was lucky enough to see Bruce Springsteen on the first night of my recent visit to South Africa. It was the first time the Boss had played in the country in years and a great, high-octane gig. This the title track from his new album. What better to drink with it than a glass of 2011 Botanica Chenin Blanc (£14.95, The Wine Society), an amazing old vine white from a vineyard in Citrusdal, with subtle oak and pithy minerality. It's made by an American, too.

Miles Davis' All Blues

Kind of Blue was the first jazz album I ever bought and I still love it. This is one of my favourite tracks on the album, with a piano-driven rhythm that makes me want to tap my feet and reach for a glass of something delicious. How about a bottle of 2010 Domaine Vadoisey Pommard (£26.95, Roberson Wine), a fine, great value red Burgundy that shows the lightness of touch of a Volnay rather than the surly power of a Pommard?

John Martyn with Old Vines Grenache Noir

I like to think that John Martyn, one of my favourite singer song writers, would have enjoyed a glass of burly, growling 2012 Old Vines Grenache Noir (£8.99, Marks & Spencer), even if spirits were more his thing. Here he is singing one of my all-time favourite songs. May you never lose your temper...
